The list of nominees, announced today in Beverly Hills at the SLS Hotel, are after the jump.

news on breaking dawn

Robert Pattinson, star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, thinks Guy Van Sant "would be great" to direct Breaking Dawn, the fourth movie adaptation of the last novel in The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. Mr. Pattinson made the remark in answer to a question by MTV's Larry Carroll, posted on the MTV website today.

There has been a different director for every installment of the adaptations so far: Twilight was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who went on to become the highest grossing female director in film history with that film. The Twilight Saga: New Moon was directed by Chris Weitz, who added a different color palette to the more troubled and sorrowful episode that is the second movie. Director David Slade took on the action-packed third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which recently wrapped production in Vancouver, Canada.

Mr. Pattinson suggested Van Sant because he frequently works in Portland, Oregon, site of the first film and rumored preferred location for the filming of Breaking Dawn and, he says, because of the "teenage love and obsession" that the film embraces which are familiar territory for Van Sant. Van Sant, he says, "is good at making things look beautiful." Van Sant directed movies such as Milk and Good Will Hunting.

KSTEWS confidence rises with New Moon

LOS ANGELES - Kristen Stewart's growing up as she matures into the role of Bella in New Moon. But she confesses it took a while for her to stop stumbling figuratively, and mumbling literally, while trying to explain herself during her first go-round with Twilight last year.

More confident during a recent interview for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the 19-year-old has apparently put her awkwardly hesitant self behind her.

It also helps her poise that she's proud of New Moon, which opens to great anticipation Nov. 20, the second film version from the wildly popular Stephenie Meyer series of four novels.

In the Chris Weitz-directed New Moon, Stewart's Bella tries to cope with her split from vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson). That's just as she becomes more involved with childhood friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who's dealing with his own werewolf-related transition.

Certainly, there's been emotional turmoil on and off camera for the L.A. actress who started working in TV commercials as a child. After a few more TV parts and movie roles, Stewart had her breakthrough playing Jodie Foster's diabetic daughter in Panic Room.

She also earned decent notices in the fantasy adventure Zathura and the thriller The Messenger, among many of her co-starring parts.

But it was her brief appearance opposite Emile Hirsch in Sean Penn's Into The Wild that convinced Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke she would be the perfect embodiment of a shy but resilient Bella.

That just might have been an appropriate description of Stewart months ago. Still, the once bashful actress seems willing and able to discuss all things put to her.

For instance, what about a tabloid story claiming she was pregnant, and multiple reports suggesting she's dating co-star Pattinson? "The whole rumour, tabloid stuff is so obviously false to me. It's like a ridiculous show . . . with false realism like a soap opera that seems real."

- On new director Chris Weitz: "He wasn't just jumping on the next big thing, so it wasn't about breaking him in at all. He only helped make everything better. He's incredible."

- On Lautner fighting to keep his Jacob role: "That controversy has probably been, like, made bigger than it was. We needed to be sure that whoever played Jacob was going to be Jacob from New Moon. He becomes a man, and it's not just a physical transformation."

- On appreciating the Twilight phenomenon: "Sometimes, I have to say, 'OK, Kristen, be here. Experience it. Make sure that this isn't another fleeting situation that you're going to barely remember.' You have to force yourself to be present."

- On filming in Vancouver: "I love Vancouver. When we're doing the Twilight series there (New Moon and Eclipse), I don't go out as much as I'd like to. I'm also sort of a boring person. But it's a beautiful place to be, and the climate is so different from what I'm used to.

- On Bella's New Moon motorcycle sequences: "I did that and I didn't like it. It's so precarious. It literally feels like you're going to fly off of it. I'm not into that."

- On the breakup scene between Bella and Edward: "That was the scariest thing. I was almost as worried about messing it up than I was about what I actually should have been thinking about, which was the issue that Bella is dealing with."

- On Bella as a risk-taking adrenalin junkie after the breakup: "The only way that I can justify that, and maybe I'm an immature girl, as well, is that I feel (that) if you feel like you need to do it, then do it. Be extreme. Go for it."

- On Bella as a role model for tween and teens: "The most typically relatable thing is that she's awesome and she doesn't know it, and she's very confident but also not arrogant."

- On her connection with the Bella character: "I'm very protective of her. I feel a shared ownership. It's weird: If you were to talk about the character in a way that was not thought out or flippant, I would be right there to say that you didn't know what you were talking about."

- On Bella's transformation in Eclipse set for release next June: "Bella is back to being herself. She's comfortable and self-assured in a way that she wasn't in New Moon. But in Eclipse, she lies to herself and she lies to everyone around her about the fact that she's in love with Jacob."

- On portraying rocker Joan Jett in the upcoming film, The Runaways: "I got to know Joan now and (in her past) through footage, the script and the story, I feel like I got to know who she was in such a whole way. I was really concerned about details being right."

EDWARD N BELLA NEW POSTER

New Details on NEW MOON

Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel, which means any director who signs on to replace Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has to be in Vancouver by Dec. 15 to begin 12 weeks of preproduction before a mid-March start date.
Reports have speculated that Hardwicke was fired for being difficult on set, but sources close to her suggest Summit’s aggressive production schedule turned her off. “She’d love to do the sequel if she could do it better than Twilight,” says one. “It became clear that Summit didn’t have those same priorities.”

Indeed, at press time the second movie appeared to have little more than a rough first-draft working script. As Summit’s production president Erik Feig told EW during Twilight’s record-busting first weekend, “There is that first…script. All the finesse that turns a screenplay into a movie hasn’t happened yet.” Two weeks later, Summit is saying it’s happy with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s progress.

Another of Hardwicke’s primary concerns was that hunky vampire Edward remains MIA throughout New Moon’s middle portion. In her own opening-weekend interview, she told EW, “You have to get the chemistry as strong between Jacob and Bella as it was between Bella and Edward. You also have to do something with that arc: She’s in love with somebody, he disappears, she falls in love with someone else, and the first guy comes back. Movies like Pearl Harbor have tried it. It absolutely didn’t work.”

With or without Hardwicke, Summit faces other snags. Two sources tell EW the studio doesn’t want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner (pictured) as Jacob, though Lautner’s agent has apparently reached out to the imaging company behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in an attempt to demonstrate to Summit how a digitally bulked-up Lautner could work. (Summit says it won’t make a decision until a new filmmaker is on board.) There’s also the matter of finding a cast of Native American actors to play Jacob’s werewolf clan — a difficult challenge Hardwicke was also faced with before settling on Lautner, who isn’t completely Native American. And with a slightly increased budget of $50 million — much of which is assumed will go to leads asking for heftier paydays, location shoots in Italy, and ramped-up F/X — Summit will have to scrimp somewhere.

So what director would want to take on such a big headache? Well, at press time, an offer was out to Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass), who put Summit on the map years ago when its foreign sales operation made tons of cash off of his first film, American Pie. (One source says Weitz has already had conversations with below-the-line crew for New Moon.) “We are in a recession,” reminds one Hollywood insider. “It’s a hit franchise. Whoever steps into it is guaranteed a $100 million gross. Everyone wants this movie.” Adds an exec at another studio, “You’d have to have a very high standard for art, hate the movie business, and hate money to walk off this sequel.”

New Moon Director Wants Fans to Cry

With New Moon ready to rise in cinemas on Nov. 19, director Chris Weitz wants it known: he is going to try to make you cry.

"We've tried our best to deliver on the romantic scenes in the film, and I would like to be able to produce more tears than any movie before, if possible," Weitz said at the Hollywood Film Festival's Hollywood Awards on Monday, Oct. 26, of capturing moments in the Twilight saga's love triangle. "If we could only weigh them with some kind of cubic tear measure!"

Weitz, who took over the directing reigns from Catherine Hardwicke, concedes that delivering the passion, thrills and heartache in the hotly anticipated sequel wasn't easily done.

"I've handled it very badly, because I'm extremely envious of Rob [Pattinson] and Taylor [Lautner]," he said, laughing. "What I've realised is that they have a very tough job – not just playing the characters that they play, but living lives that are now very much under scrutiny all the time."

He adds that the intense level of attention – including speculation about cast members' love lives – was challenging for everyone. "To be honest, even making the movie is under a tremendous amount of scrutiny now, so that when the cast went back to Vancouver there were cameras everywhere," he said. "Everyone knows where every set is going to be. It goes with the internet and all the information is out there all the time, and whenever one of them is spotted it's immediately Twittered."

The director said he had to resort to some extreme measures to avoid the prying eyes of paparazzi and fans while on location. "I can remember trying to barricade some windows by turning tables over so that they couldn't look in at a cast dinner that they we were having," he admitted.

Nevertheless, Weitz thinks the New Moon stars are gracefully dealing with the attention. "I think that they handle it very well really. They're smart kids – I can say that because I'm 40 – and they've got good heads on their shoulders. So they'll be all right."

As for Weitz himself? "The moment this film is out I go away because no one really knows what I look like," he said. "At least that's my plan!"

On the eve of New Moon 's release, the film's stars open up about dealing with fame - and their feelings for each other.

So what of recent rumours of a split? Sources tell WHO the couple appear to be going strong. "They kind of snuggled up next to each other," says a source. "They definitely acted like a couple."

Jackson: I’m not into sports. I used to play a lot of baseball as a kid but I’ve never followed it I was always much more into art.

My Fav Quotes

I'm here, and I love you. I have always loved you, and I will always love you. I was thinking of you, seeing your face in my mind, every second that I was away.

Before you, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars - points of light and reason. And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly, everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything"

Bella--Did you know that I told you so has a brother, Jacob. His name is "Shut the Hell Up"

Only you could be more important than what I wanted...what I needed. What I want and need is to be with you, and I know I'll never be strong enough to leave again.
